SOL Information
Instructor: Mr. Elliott
Graduation from a Virginia high school
requires that students pass specific course
work to earn course credits as well as pass
specific Standards of Learning End-of-Course
exams (SOLs) to verify credit in some classes.
This includes English Reading and Writing, math,
science and social studies.  Students confer with their
individual academic counselors to select a course
of study and a graduation plan.  The specific
graduation plan determines which verified credits
a student must earn.  Regardless of the graduation
plan, all students enrolled in SOL courses must take
the SOL exam at the end of the course.

Important Announcements
PSAT - October 12
The PSAT, Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, administered one date only in the fall of each school year, is a practice SAT aimed specifically at students in Grade 11.   Students who take the PSAT in Grade 11 benefit from this test as a preparation for the SAT.   Schools often provide the test to students in Grades 9 and 10 in order to help them determine academic strengths and weaknesses in advance of the actual PSAT and SAT tests.  North Stafford will administer the PSAT on October 12 for all Grade 10 students and those Grade 11 students who sign up.  It is recommended that all college bound Grade 11 students take the PSAT.
Fall Transfer and Makeup SOL testing
Students new to NSHS from out of state and students who need to make up SOLs from prior testing sessions will be given an opportunity to take online SOLs during the week of December 5 - 9.  Students transferring were notified of SOL requirements by their counselors and should avail themselves of practice, released SOLs available on the Department of Education website.  They may also confer with any teacher of any SOL course taught on this campus.

Students who failed prior SOLs need to contact a teacher of the particular SOL course for review materials prior to testing to review for the test.  Released, online tests may be found on the Department of Education Website.

ASVAB - November 18
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) will be administered at NSHS during Blocks 1 - 3 on Friday, November 18.  Students who are interested in testing may sign up in the Guidance Office beginning November 1.  This test provides students with vocational aptitude information, and it is used by the military to screen for enlistment purposes.  Students planning to enlist for military service after graduation are encouraged to test.
